Karnataka: A police sub-inspector has been suspended for alleged misconduct with a CRPF jawan for violating lockdown rules in Belagavi district of Karnataka. This decision has been taken at a time when the paramilitary forces raised the issue with the Chief of Police of the state.
Police said on Thursday, Anil Kumar, associated with Sadlaga station, was suspended for not properly handling the case related to the arrest of Cobra commando Sachin Sawant in Examba Village. According to the police, the CRPF jawan was sitting with his friend without a mask. During this time, the police team patrolling him tried to break the rules and the CRPF personnel fought with the police team. During this, he also attacked the police team, after which he was arrested.
Actually a video has surfaced, where Sawant is being beaten by the constables and paraded barefoot. A video of the CRPF jawan being held in a chain at Sadalga station went viral, after which CRPF Additional Director General of Police Sanjay Arora wrote a letter to the Karnataka DGP. After this, the entire case was investigated.
Inspector General of Police Raghavendra Suhas told reporters, “We have suspended the sub-inspector of that police station for not handling the case properly. He is in charge of the police station and whatever happens there is his responsibility.”
Sawant was arrested and produced before a court, which initially sent him to judicial custody, but later granted conditional bail on Tuesday.
