SRINAGAR: The security forces, in a joint operation, on Friday gunned down four terrorists in South Kashmir’s Shopian district, including the founder of Al Badr group who was once an SPO with the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The security forces also managed to capture one of the terrorists hiding in Kiloora area of Shopian district.
Of the four terrorists gunned down, one was identified as Shakoor Ahmed Parray, founder and district commander of Al Badr terrorist group. A second terrorist was identified as Suhail Bhat, who had abducted and killed the sarpanch of Khanmoh.
Arms and ammunition were also recovered from the terrorists.
“Shopian Police was informed that 4-5 terrorists were in an orchard in Kiloora area. When security forced cordoned off the area and started search operation, they fired on them. Four terrorists have been killed while one has been captured. He is being questioned.
“Out of four terrorists killed, Shakoor Ahmed Parray was the most important. He was a special police officer (SPO) and later made constable. He had fled with four AK-47s, joined terrorism and formed a group, Al-Badr, and recruited 10 youths out of which 5 have been killed,” Vijay Kumar, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, said.
“No police personnel has been injured in the encounter in Kiloora area of Shopian district. We will increase our operations from November in order to eliminate remaining terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.
