Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan arrested from Islamabad High Court premises in Al-Qadir Trust case

PAKISTAN April 09: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has been arrested in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust Case from the premises of the Islamabad High Court on Tuesday. Khan was taken into custody by the Pakistani Rangers.

The former Prime Minister, along with his wife Bushra Bibi and other PTI leaders, is facing an inquiry from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) related to a settlement between the PTI government and a property tycoon, which reportedly caused a loss of 50 billion rupees to the national exchequer. They are also accused of getting undue benefit in the form of over 458 kanals of land at Mouza Bakrala, Sohawa, to establish Al Qadir University.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that Imran had failed to appear before the court despite being issued several notices. He said the arrest has been conducted by the NAB for causing losses to the national treasury.

Meanwhile, the arrest of Imran Khan has resulted in protests and demonstrations across Pakistan. PTI workers are protesting in cities across the country, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi and Peshawar. In Karachi, demonstrators clashed with the police. Internet has been suspended in several parts of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. And section 144 has been imposed in Peshawar.
