Jammu: With the completion of 91 percent target allotted under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), the Jammu and Kashmir clinched the third spot while the Udhampur district bagged top position among 30 districts across the country.
Credible sources informed The News Now, the Jammu and Kashmir constructed 3,166 kilo metre (91%) road out of allotted target of 3500.
They informed that the construction of road connected 119 habitants, out of 177 targeted.
Sources added five districts of Jammu and Kashmir finds place among 30 districts while the Udhampur district has received the top position.
Udhampur district has received the top position for constructing roads of the maximum length of 560.49 km in 2020-21.
Four more districts from Jammu and Kashmir have also figured in the list of PMGSY top performing 30 districts of the country. These include Rajouri (420.25 Km), Doda (335.71 Km), Kathua (297.79 Km) and Reasi (223.23 Km).
The PMGSY is a programme launched by the Union government to provide connectivity to unconnected habitations as part of a poverty reduction strategy.
The further informed that the Jammu and Kashmir has constructed 14053.59 Kilo meters in past 7 years with expenditure of Rs 7661.45 crores.
Earlier in October 2020, 12 districts of Jammu and Kashmir figured in the list of country’s top 30 PMGSY performing districts which includes Doda, Udhampur, Anantnag, Rajouri, Baramulla, Budgam, Kupwara, Reasi, Kathua, Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam.
“The authorities have expressed optimism that other districts would also work hard to achieve this rare distinction of being the best performing district under implementation of PMGSY programme,” said an official.
The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), was launched by the Govt. of India to provide connectivity to unconnected Habitations as part of a poverty reduction strategy.
Govt. of India is endeavoring to set high and uniform technical and management standards and facilitating policy development and planning at State level in order to ensure sustainable management of the rural roads network.
According to latest figures made available by the State Governments under a survey to identify Core Network as part of the PMGSY programme, about 1.67 lakh Unconnected Habitations are eligible for coverage under the programme. This involves construction of about 3.71 lakh km. of roads for New Connectivity and 3.68 lakh km. under upgradation.
